Having been in the industry for over 20 years, technology has become a passion of mine. In this blog I want to share some new and noteworthy products that made a big splash at the recent Consumer Electronics Show.
Sony announced its brand new X930/X940 4K HDR televisions in 55”, 65” and 75”. These brand new televisions are thinner, brighter and even more colourful than past models. And they hang on the wall like a picture; no bracket required. These TVs are also loaded with new technology including High Dynamic Range (HDR), which allows the TV to have more brightness information resulting in greater contrast, wider colour spectrum and improved detail resulting in exceptional clarity. The other big deal with these devices is something Sony is calling “Slim Backlight Drive.” This technology gives us the huge benefit of backlit LED and it cleverly guides light to where it is needed most, resulting in three times the dynamic range of conventional LED backlit TV.
Ring, an incredibly popular award-winning company producing the Ring Video Doorbell, has launched a wireless security camera version of the product. Like the Video Doorbell, you can “see who’s there, from anywhere,” as Ring puts it. With wide angled HD video, smart motion detection and cloud recording, it’s like you’re home even when you’re not. I recently installed a Ring Video Doorbell at my house and my wife and I love it. While out on New Year’s Eve, my wife and I watched pizza get delivered to our son and just the other day I spoke to a UPS driver who was at my front door while I was at the office. It solves a lot of issues and brings peace of mind. Installation was super easy, too. In a matter of 30 minutes, it was installed, configured and running.
