Saturday Night Live

Transforming 40 years of legendary comedy with cutting-edge technology

Client Needs

Premier Exhibitions was on a tight schedule to complete the Saturday Night Live Exhibition – a 15,000 square foot exhibit that included over 15 dazzling galleries that provided visitors with a “behind the scenes” look into the fast-paced preparation that goes into creating SNL each week. The biggest thing they needed was a company to design, engineer, install, commission and program the AV and control systems.

Solutions

Design Electronics worked hand-in-hand with the Producer and Creative Director of the SNL exhibition, designing and providing systems for over 75 discreet channels of audio visual content. This was completed by utilizing an extensive variety of presentation methodologies, including interactive displays, multi-screen video montage, multi-configured video walls, surface projection, and standalone flat panel displays throughout the galleries.

For this project, each audio program required a unique delivery style. Design Electronics partnered with Bose Professional for this portion of the exhibition, which included directional, ambient, and high fidelity sound elements.

In order to provide a completely automated environment, show controllers were deployed for many of the galleries. This included controlling lighting cues, audio, video, automated doors operators, countdown clocks, and several other components like DMX controlled devices.

Upon completion of all elements, this exhibit is truly an immersive journey through SNL history – beginning in Lorne Michael’s office, and then proceeding through a timeless set of props, video, photographs and multimedia presentations. This display allows the audience to explore a side of the show that has never been seen, including an intimate video montage created by Tina Fey, Alec Baldwin and Seth Meyers, all created specifically for this showcase.

This creative and unique exhibit lends itself to be one of the most iconic tributes to American television, which Design Electronics was proud to have been a part of.
